When considering different soundproofing techniques, whether for the construction of new professional and do-it-yourself renovations, it is important to understand how sound is transmitted through the walls, to a comparable set of advantages. To determine which technique is attractive, we will first investigate how sound interacts with obstacles – such as walls – and you compare the performance of loaded vinyl soundproofing noise insulation and drywall.
Sound – that sound waves or vibrations – passes from one side of a barrier (wall) to the other causes the barrier to vibrate, which in turn vibrates the air, on the other side of the barrier. Of course, the obstacles, with more mass to vibrate like a wall of heavy metals, and more difficult to transmit less noise, lighter than obstacles. This basic principle is what underlies the “mass-loading” for soundproofing, including vinyl is loaded. In the case of mass loaded vinyl, vinyl-foil heavy, with a weight of about one pound per square foot, are used to determine the mass of the wall between the studs and the installation to increase the outer layer of drywall.
